SETTLEMENT OF CLAIM

I PHONED OUTSURANCE ON 04/12/2012 TO CONFIRM THAT MY INSURANCE WAS IN PLACE BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS AND TO ALSO CONFIRM THAT I WAS COVERED BY THE SHORTFALL INSURANCE WHICH I TOOK OUT PREVIOUSLY. I WAS NOT. I TOOK OUT THE SHORTFALL COVER AGAIN AND OVERSTATED THE FACT THAT IF I DO TAKE THE SHORTFALL COVER I WOULD BE COVERED IN FULL IN CASE MY VEHICLE WAS WRITTEN OFF. I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES THAT I WAS FULLY COVERED AND EMPHASISED THAT IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME THAT I AM COVERED IN FULL IN CASE OF MY VEHICLE BEEN WRITTEN OFF AS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE AND STILL OWE MONEY. HE ASSURED ME THAT I WAS.

MY SON HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH MY VEHICLE ON 31/01/2013 AND THE VEHICLE WAS WRITTEN OFF. WHEN THE INSURANCE CLAIM PAID OUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED IN FULL. OUTSURANCE SAID TO ME THAT THERE WERE "EXTRAS" ON MY CAR THAT WAS NOT COVERED AND NOW I AM LIABLE FOR AN AMOUNT OF R25 000.00 WHICH WAS NOT COVERED.

THE "EXTRAS" TURNED OUT TO BE THE PAINTECH POLICY AND THE SERVICE PLAN I TOOK OUT WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. NOT ONCE WAS I ASKED ABOUT "EXTRAS" TO BE INSURED. THE STAFF THAT WORKS THERE SHOULD ADVISE ON THAT. HOW SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT THAT?
