Absa
Double deduction of debit orders-refuse to refund

Hi,

My trust (Luthando Investment Trust) have a home loan with ABSA. In May 2012, there were not enough money in the cheque account for the debit order because of an additional amount going off the account. ABSA contacted me and asked me to do a payment as the ABSA home loan debit order failed. I asked the consultant if they can re-deduct the amount from the bank account, as I transferred money to the cheque account. The agent agreed. I did not check the account again. When I checked it on 25 Mar 2013, I noticed that ABSA is taking a double debit order per month from my account. One on the 15th and one on the 29th. When I phoned the call center, they confirmed that a double debit order has been going through since May 2012. I asked her to refund the money as I only authorized a single additional Debit Order to go through. Lady put me on hold to find out. She came back to me that ABSA will not refund all the money (only 3 months), as by not complaining, I agreed to the deductions. I told her to check the voice transcripts which clearly states a single debit order. She is awaiting a response from department by I want my money back.
