I went online to check the criteria to apply for a personal loan. The Capitec website indicates that you require 3 months bank statements, 3 most recent payslips, south african id document and water and lights account. I collected all the documents and went to the branch on 22 February. I went to the designated counter only to be told that they require my debit card as well as all the other documents before they could process any application to see if i qualify for a loan, this apparently because i am an existing Capitec client. This bank advertises that it is paperless, it apparently has the best security ie. your fingerprint online in the event you do not have your card with you and need to transact. How is it then that they cannot process a simple application for a personal loan without a debit card which is the easiest item to clone. The picture on the screen when the lady opened up the intial process shows my picture, she has my id, water and lights account, proof of employ and proof of bank account where my salary is paid into. What is a debit card going to confirm that all this other paperwork does not already confirm. Don't they want to loan money to their account holders??
