I home owners insurance with SANTAM. my satellite dish had a lightening strike.damage to the dish and aerial elements was just on R2000. i asked about submitting a claim. i was told not to because the dish is not a fixture and lightening strikes are not covered. sounded strange but i initially accepted this. i was told i should have had "OPTIONAL COVER" on my policy. i asked why i was never made aware of this. i took "OPTIONALCOVER" to cover me for future strikes and asked fo amendment and updated policy wording.
Opttional cover on the document says i am covered for "GENERAL" and "MECHANICA/ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC" brakedowns. after spending most of the day on the line to SANTAM and INGWE RISK MANAGEMENT, not a single member of staff could tell me what that covered. it was a joke. shunted from one person to another. eventually spoke to someone called Albert who seemed to agree with me (i think) and promised to get someone to call me. after a day noone called so i called him again. he promised to follow up and the Manager of Claims would call me. this did not happen either.
i still have no idea what my policy covers and neither does anyone at SANTAM. they make it up as they go along
