FUNDS TAKEN FROM CHEQUE ACCOUNT WITHOUT PERMISSION

Ok, so I understand if a person is in arrears on a home loan that a bank will do what it takes to recover the money, but, the installments were being paid, and a verbal arrangement (which i am sure is recorded) was made to spread the arrears.
However, STANDARD BANK took the money out of the cheque account without permission and notification of the transfer. This left zero funds in the account. They do say its in my contract - I havent confirmed - by how about the courteosy of notifying the client.
For a long time now i knew the business ethics of standard bank were declining, but this is low, even by their standards. Whatever amount is in the cheque account, they just wipe it out - NO PERMISSION - NO NOTIFICATION TO THE CLIENT. Not even the SMS notification was sent - which shows that they have control of what SMSes are sent and can even hold SMSes back.
It is scary that so many people have access to a private bank account, wherby transfers can be done without the account holder's permission.
I have been with this bank my whole life but their service seems to deteriorate, rather than improve.
This is the last straw - I am definitely switching banks now.
