In November 2012, the City of Johannesburg (W&L) changed its banking service provider from ABSA to Standard Bank. This requires customers to change the City's banking details for payments to the City. ABSA is making many of its loyal customers very disgruntled by not creating options for ABSA clients to load the City of Johannesburg as a beneficiary. ABSA Internet banking does not provide for such an option, and I have visited three ABSA branches to try resolve this, but to no avail. The City of Johannesburg's response is "call ABSA". It seems very problematic that ABSA should be making its customers bear the burden of the City's decision, although it does make one wonder why the City of Johannesburg chose to change its service provider. I am thinking of doing the same after twenty-five years with ABSA
