When ABSA decided to switch to eStatements, they sent me an SMS informing me that they are switching and that I should SMS PAPER to 31513 if I want to continue to receive paper statements. I did so, and received a SMS confirming that I will continue to receive paper statements.
Despite this exchange of SMS'es, I received an e-mail on 10 November 2012 welcoming me to electronic statements. I then phoned the Platinum line, explaining the situation to the consultant and again confirming that I wish to continue receiving paper statements. The consultant assured me that the error has been corrected, and that I will continue to receive paper statements.
In spite of both these assurances, I received an electronic statement for my savings account on 3 December and my cheque account on 5 December 2012. I tried to phone the Platinum line after receiving each e-mail, but the line was down on both occasions. I sent 2 e-mails to the official statement e-mail address, and finally got a request for more details. I sent it, but still got eStatements for the next 2 months. I have sent e-mails and phoned the call centre, and it has still not been sorted out. All I want is paper statements!
