Waited in line for a teller because i wanted to convert 1000 rand of 5 rand coins. the coins were already packaged in 10 money bags containing 100 rand per bag. after waiting in the line for about 20 minutes the teller informed me that i was not able to convert the coins into cash as it had to be deposited into my banking account. i informed her that i needed the cash and did not want it put into my banking account. she then informed me that i was not able to convert the coins for cash. i then asked if this was a bank because surely a bank cannot refuse to convert my coins into cash. with little satisfaction i went to the foyer to lodge a complaint and was informed by the "manager" on duty that i cannot convert my coins as they were more concerned about losing their "cash handling fee." so its all about the cash handling fee or bank charges than to keep a client happy that has been banking with them for more than 20 years. well I've made up my mind, as soon as i have the time i will be switching banks. no wonder Absa was not "Bank of the Year." i have finally reached a point where Absa has failed me on numerous occasions.
