On Saturday 9th November, while on a business trip to Johannesburg, I tried to draw cash twice in succession from my Austrian American Express Card, and both times the transaction was declined by the machine at the Standard Bank Branch in Santon City... When I queried this with the American Express Forex Office next door, they advised that for some unknown reason, you cannot get cash from your foreign Amex card in S A. Well note my surprise when I received my Amex statement last week to see 2 Amex cash withdrawals charged to my Amex Card for R4, 000.
How is it possible that a bank today can still do this... Don't you balance your systems and cash from your machines...
I have disputed the 2 charges with Amex, and am waiting for these invalid and charges to be reversed!!!
Very disappointed with standard bank, especially considering I have an account with them...
