Quotations on home loan that was never requested

I have recently received a sms from Absa stating that my home loan application was accepted by ooba. Since I have never applied for a home loan with Absa and dont even know who ooba is, I had phoned Absa call centre. After difficulty in getting through (you need an account number for your call to be taken) I finally managed to get to speak to a consultant, Anthea, who tells me that ooba is an estate agent that Absa deals with. Upon asking for further details i was informed that there is nothing on Absa's system under my ID but confirmation of this cannot be send to me. In order for me to get confirmation that there is no transaction under my name with Absa I have to go into an Absa branch to query this further.
As I have had previous experience with Absa where I was told an issue was resolved only to get a lawyers call 2 years later, I would like confirmation that there is no transaction in my name currently being processed by ABSA.
If ABSA or any of its affiliates (which all should be companies governed by laws) has incorrectly used my details why should I have to go into a branch to clear your mistakes. Surely this is an unacceptable way for a financial organization to work.
