I had a business insurance with Auto & General under policy number 806026008. The insured vehicle was involved in an accident on or about the 5 Dec 2012 and a decision was made to 'write-off' the vehicle and paid what they were obliged to pay. Around September 2013 I went to the Traffic Dept to renew my drivers licence and I learnt that there were 'outstanding licencing penalties' in respect of he vehicle that was written off an in the possession of Auto & General. I sent them an e-mail enclosing a copy of the report from the Traffic Dept requesting them to do the honourable thing - pay their debt as the vehicle was no longer mine. They made an empty promise to me to attend to. I went to the Traffic Department to renew my licence disc and learnt again that there were 'outstanding licencing penalities' despite having reported to Auto & General in September 2013. The Traffic Department correctly advised me to pay the outstanding licensing penalities and pursue Auto & General as they were not going to renew my disc without payment. I paid the required amount of R 224.00 in respect of the licencing penalties and also renewed my other vehicle disc. I want my refund ASAP.
