ABSA Internet - Not all money recovered

On Friday 27 Sept they R15 800 out of my husband's ABSA Internet banking account. We were away for the weekend and were unaware that this has happened. When we returned we tried to Logon into the Internet banking only to see that he has been locked out.

First thing on Monday morning 30 Sept he went into a ABSA branch and they advised him that his account was locked out due to internet. ABSA knew there was on the account, but instead of notifying us (perhaps just a courtesy call) they just lock his internet banking.

He was advised that we would have to wait 6 - 8 weeks. Later he was informed that he could possibly get his money back as soon as 2 weeks later. We were patient and even though the pressure on us financially was rather significant (as this was a huge shortfall in our Monthly budget) - You would think that the bank of all people should know this.

Finally, a 7 weeks later they paid R12 612.21 back (roughly R 3200 short) I am appalled since you pay the Bank to keep your money safe. Surely they should have insurance???

I have since heard of similar cases all involving ABSA. Seems like you are better off putting your money under a mattress
