No feedback regarding my credit card application

I went in to the cape town branch to change my cheque debit card for another card so that I can do online purchases. The consultant advised me that I would have to apply for a credit card as that is the only card that the bank has that would allow me to do online purchases. I had to call the call centre to find out about the progress and I was then advised that it was declined.i then advised the consultant that I just want a card that allows me to do online purchases and that I don't need a CREDIT CARD!!! She then responded by saying that its risk profile dependant blah blah blah. The consultant that I spoke to in the branch told me that I can just apply for the card and not have any credit as I could set a limit it would just be a card that would be linked to my cheque account so that I could do purchases. Clearly this is not the case im very frustrated as now I would have to look for another bank that can assist me with a card that would allow me to do this. I would not recommend this bank to anyone. I am very disappointed.
