I opened a Standard bank cheque acc. long ago, I think it was 2010. Everything went well until the day I closed the account. I went to east rand mall Standard bank to close the account on 2011/11/21. The lady at enquires told me she could help me close the account, we went through the whole procedure, she took my card and cut it up right in front of me and handed me a paper to sign that my account is now closed, she handed me a slip to give to the teller to get the last money that was in the acc. Afterwards, you would think the account is closed... guess again. 2 years later they phone me and tell me that I owe them R2700 -!!!
I went in to check it out and it seems like they never closed my acc. It was lying there with bank charges, and "transfer to cheque card purchase" all over it with branch transaction fees as well. all of which is different sums of money every time. Now they are holding me liable for that money, after I closed my acc. and they snipped my card up in front of me!!! They said I used my card, but I DON'T EVEN HAVE A CARD!!! A few of my friends went to similar situations, and coincidentally all of them where STANDARD BANK!!! Don't ever open a cheque acc at SB!!!
