Close saving account in 2006 Now been sue forR1949

I close my Saving account in 2006 February 07 at Nedbank Eastgate. The bank pay me the funds of R288.80. and never close my account In November 2007 they start phone me to collect the Outstanding amount for Interests and banking charges on my saving account. I told them the account is been close at the Eastgate branch. I request statements just to confirm I been charge on a Saving account this charges. Every time they phone I told them this account is been close. In 2013 Nedbank has been put legal action againt me and list me on ITC for Interest and legal charges on an Debit amount due to Bank charges on a account that is been close on 07 Feb 2006. The bank want proof that I close the account. I do not have proof behalf of the amount that was paid to be when I close my account.

Can u please assist me.
