Payment Arrangement Made BUT Funds TAKEN Anyway

Last week Friday, I received a call from a collections agent for Absa Credit Card, indicating that I owed approximately R1, 300 in arrears payments. I indicated that I wasn't going to dispute the arrears, however when the question of repayment of the amount was posed, I indicated that I would make a payment towards the arrears a day or two after payday (i.e. 20th September 2013). I made it VERY clear, however, that I WOULD NOT BE MAKING THE FULL PAYMENT - and the COLLECTIONS AGENT AGREED (if the calls are recorded, this can be verified). About an hour or so after that chat - still merrily thinking that all was agreed - I went into my online banking profile, and saw that Absa Credit Card had in fact drawn a debit against my cheque account - despite what had been arranged & agreed - for the full R1, 300 owing. I'm not upset here about having to pay arrears - because that's what I should be doing as a responsible borrower. I am however upset that the Bank (which I work for) decided that the arrangement I'd just made with them wasn't worth keeping, and then drew the money anyway. I know all about Ts & Cs, but I'd be interested to see how this fares from a conduct risk & TCF persective
