I took out a personal loan in 2000 for R3000. I was still working for FNB in Mtubatuba. I closed my accounts in 2002 and joined my ex husband's account at Standard Bank. At that stage I was under the impression that my personal loan was also paid up as I never received any statements or any correspondence about an outstanding account. At the end of last year I was informed that I owed over R5 200 to a personal loan account. It was interest. In June there was a deduction off my cheque account of R1300. When I queried it and tried to make arrangements to pay it back and to ask for the history of the account as I was never informed about any outstanding debt, I was informed that because it was so long outstanding, I couldn't make arrangements. R600 was deducted the month thereafter, another R600 at the end of August and R2547 at the beginning of September. I tried to sort this out as from Monday as I cannot affort this big deduction but every time when I phoned they said they was too busy in meetings and cannot help me. It is at the legal department of the personal loans of FNB. I am a single mom and cannot affort this deduction.
