Standard Bank Non-existant security measur at ATMs

Mr Maphelo Mnconco, aged 56, a Standard Bank banker was robbed of R2000 at Standard Bank ATM in Witbank, Klipfontein on sunday 14 July 2013 at 11h20. He called the bank and explained what happened and was asked to go to the branch the next day. The bank then told him that these kind of incidents happen all the time at those ATMs and they would re-imburse him of his money. After a few weeks, he was called into the bank and told that they were only going to refund him R1000.00.

He now doesnt understand how this was his fault because the ATM switched off after he entered pin and withdrawal amount of R700. How is it his fault that these ATMs are unsecure? He did everything from his side to conceal his pin and there was no one around him. Now, how is he penalised a R1000 for the bank's negligence and non-existing ATM security.

Standard bank must account for all of his losses. The money that was taken from his account was the last that he had and he had to wait 4 weeks to be told he was only going to get half back. What about the inconvenience caused by having no money for a whole month?

These people must stop taking people for a ride and fix their issues.
