This occurred about 2 years ago. Approximately 2 km away from my flat my car broke down and I had to call Outsurance to assist me with car tow away so that I could repair the car. I am new to Cape Town and very unfamiliar with the city and advised this to the call agent who asked me to accompany the towing company to the car dealer. Upon arrival at the dealer I was advised that I would have to find my own way home as my car broke down less than 50 km away from my residence. Upon complaint, at my call expense, and subsequent review of the tape of the conversation I was advised that I would be able to obtain a rental car but that the nearest dealer was at the airport (some 35 km away). I ended up spending hours walking around the car repair dealership and finally managed to get a lift home from a friend who was only available after working hours. Outsurance offered no assistance or apology and simply didn't care. They left me stranded with no assistance to get home. I have since changed insurance companies and warned my family, friends and colleagues!!! Beware of the out bonus as this should not fool you into thinking that you will be assisted when you are in the midst of a problem!
