I did a quote with Discovery at the end of April for vehicle and home contents insurance and accepted said quote to be made active on policy for May 2013. I then realized at around 5 pm on the 30th of April that I had not cancelled my policy with my previous insurance company and that the 1st of May was a public holiday. The deduction for Discovery was only due to be deducted on the 3rd of May 2013 and I phoned Discovery first thing in the morning on the 2nd of May. I spoke to a sales assistant who advised me to allow the policy to lapse instead and I requested for him to keep the premium (that had not yet been deducted) over until June 2013 and make my commencement date June 1 2013. On 30 May I rescheduled my DQ Tracking appointment and decided to just confirm that no deduction would be done on the 1st for Discovery as my premium was kept until June - HE CONFIRMED THIS WAS IN ORDER. 30 May I was informed by sales assistant that this arrangement was not honoured and is not possible. If I knew what I know now, I would have allowed the policy to lapse and have exercised a stop order. I have cancelled this policy. I intend cancelling my Discovery medical aid and annuity too.
