As I have done this on a number of previous occasions, I went into FNB Balfour Park on Tuesday morning, wanting to exchange coins for notes. The coins were all counted and put in the correct amounts into FNB plastic bank bags. I was told that FNB does not exchange coins for notes, whether I'm a customer or not. It is the bank's policy. They will only deposit the coins into my bank account. Now we all know that once you deposit cash into an account, there is a handling fee. I was furious. I walked next door to Standard Bank and there was no fuss, no bother, I wasn't even questioned as to whether I had an account with them (which I do), and the lady was not even offended that the coins were in FNB bags, although I did apologise. So I have two questions: Is this really FNB banking policy or just a lazy teller, and what would you suggest to the car guards when they want to exchange their coins for notes? Maybe Steve should have stayed with *beep* bank.
