I am a 23yr old single mom with two kids, my husband passed away in a car accident. TWO years ago i had taken out a loan with african bank, they approved me on R10 000.00 on the loan and R 5000.00 on a credit card. i had paid the loan and credit for 8months. i had then started a new job and 3 months down the line found out that the company i currently worked for is gone under debt rescue. i had informed african bank about my company situation and made arrangements to pay them a reduced amount. The company promised to pay us, but unfortunetly they hadnt paid us in ful for 7months . after 9months they had retrenched all their workers and i was one of them. i had insurance on my african bank loan and credit they had paid african bank for six months. it was towards year end and couldnt find a job. finally i had started a new job at the begining of December. i had called African bank today to find out my settlement, the amount that i am owing them now is R17 580.00. I ask them if its possible to get a discount on my settlement and was told that my account is not paid upto date that why they cannot give me a discount.
