Absolutely infuriated and inconvenienced!

Unfortunately in 2010/2011 I was left in quite a large amount of debt with Standard Bank due to a divorce & having 2 small children to support.
Fortunately I made a plan to settle all my debt. I work for attorneys and they contacted Std bank for settlement amounts for each ie. RCL, Credit Card &overdraft. All three were settled by December 2011. Which I was very happy &relieved about. I received letters confirming settlement & accounts being closed.
I am now in a situation where I have to apply for finance to buy a car. To my horror I was declined due to being in arrears for my Std Bank Credit Card. I called the institution &spoke with a Lady on thurs morning, 02 May 2013. She advised that I was 8 months in arrears and that my account was handed over in January this year! How is this possible if the account had been settled. I went into Std Bank and spoke with a consultant, she could not help me and advised I call the card devision. I did, with not much friend service, bearing in my this mistake is in no way my fault. He advised that the query had been lodged &would take 3 to 4 work days to get back to me. I do not have this time to wait. Why must I suffer for Std Banks stuff up!!!
